Medical Centre Assistant
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine and non-routine medical administration as directed by the School Nurse.
- Ensure necessary documentation (consent, MAR) is completed before medication administration.
- Ensure MAR completion before administering routine medication, or in School Nurse absence with appropriate training.
- Report medication errors immediately.
- Ensure safe storage, supply, and administration of drugs (including controlled drugs) and health equipment.
- Update pupil administration systems for timely data collection and confidentiality.
- Use information technology for pupil care in accordance with Aurora Group IT Policies.
- Assist with communication regarding pupil health and wellbeing changes to the School Nurse, Clinical Lead or school team.
- Promptly deal with equipment failure.
- Report incidents/accidents involving pupils, visitors or staff, taking appropriate action.
- Ensure safekeeping of pupil property in the Medical Centre.
- Support the School Nurse with the administration of Individual Health Care Plans.
- Support the School Nurse with administrative duties during new student admissions.
- Provide Medication Administration training to education staff (following relevant training).
- Support the School Nurse with delivering training as needed.
- Undertake other medical centre duties as directed.
- Undertake duties related to first aid kits, eye wash stations, burns kits and other first aid equipment maintenance and audit.
Skills and Expertise
- Experience working in a school environment or with children in a care environment.
- Experience with medication management.
- Experience working in a team.
- Experience with children with Special Educational Needs (e.g., ADHD, ASD, SEMH).
- Ability to understand information quickly and make safe decisions.
- Ability to embrace change and learn.
- Respect for people’s dignity and compassionate care.
- Ability to work independently and be accountable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Adaptable communication style, including use of signs/symbols if needed.

- Hold or be prepared to train for First Aid qualification (e.g., FAW, Paediatric First Aid).
- Hold or be prepared to work towards a care qualification at Level 2 or above.
- Competence in clinical skills like Diabetes and Epilepsy Management (and relevant training).
