Medical Centre Assistant – Norwich

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine and non-routine medical administration as directed by the School Nurse, ensuring necessary documentation (consent, MAR) is completed before medication administration.
  • Ensure MAR completion by the Registered School Nurse, or in their absence, by the Assistant, following appropriate training.
  • Report medication errors immediately according to Aurora Group policy.
  • Ensure safe storage, supply, and administration of drugs (including controlled drugs) and health equipment, adhering to Aurora Group policies and legal requirements.
  • Update pupil administration systems for timely data collection and confidentiality.
  • Use IT for pupil care in accordance with Aurora Group policies.
  • Communicate changes in pupil health and wellbeing to the School Nurse, Clinical Lead, or school team.
  • Deal with equipment failure according to Aurora Group procedure.
  • Report incidents/accidents involving pupils, visitors, or staff, and take appropriate action per Aurora Group policy.
  • Ensure safekeeping of pupil property in the Medical Centre.
  • Support the School Nurse with Individual Health Care Plan administration and maintenance.
  • Support the School Nurse with administrative duties during new student admissions.
  • Provide Medication Administration training to education staff (after relevant training).
  • Support the School Nurse with delivering training as needed.
  • Undertake other medical centre duties as directed by the School Nurse or Clinical Lead.
  • Undertake other duties related to first aid kit maintenance and audit.

Skills and Expertise

  • Experience working in a school or care environment.
  • Teamwork experience.
  • Medication management experience.
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (ADHD, ASD, SEMH).
  • Ability to understand information quickly and make safe decisions.

  • First Aid at Work/Paediatric First Aid certification or willingness to train.
  • Level 2 or above care qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Medication Management qualification at level 3 (desirable).
  • GCSE Maths and English Language minimum Grade 4 or equivalent (essential).
