Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing specialist nursing care to patients with liver disease.
  • Undergoing training if this is a first Hepatology CNS role.
  • Working alongside experienced practitioners to gain experience in viral hepatology clinics.
  • Taking on more varied roles as competence and confidence grows.
  • Working with the existing CNS team in varied roles across hospital and community settings.
  • Offering nurse-led clinics in areas such as stable cirrhosis, Viral hepatitis, AILD, NAFLD, and speciality clinics.
  • Treating hard-to-reach patients with hepatitis C or HBV, rarer liver disease patients.
  • Providing a clinic for newly discharged decompensated patients.
  • Carrying out nurse-led paracentesis.
  • Engaging key stakeholders and supporting the nursing team in delivering specialist hepatology nursing across secondary and primary care.
  • Working with others nationally on new nursing projects.
