Deputy Dispensary Manager – Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Pharmacy Technician in delivering and developing an efficient dispensary service adhering to CQC standards.
  • Provide a comprehensive dispensing service for medication supply to patients undergoing treatment and discharge.
  • Assist with the daily running, management, and development of staff and service improvements within the Inpatient pharmacy.
  • Ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and economic drug use through adherence to Trust policies.
  • Deliver an efficient Technician-led pharmacy service and SLA services.
  • Ensure accurate and timely supply of medicines from dispensary and satellite dispensaries.
  • Provide a safe and efficient service, timely ordering and supply to meet medication requirements.
  • Ensure the pharmacy dispensary is appropriately stocked, checked, and organised.
  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical advice and information to other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital formulary and provide advice on non-formulary/unlicensed drugs.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital antimicrobial policy and other clinical protocols.
  • Ensure stock is stored appropriately and regularly reviewed.
  • Oversee the provision of Anaphylaxis Kits, Cyanide Poisoning kits, Emergency Crash Boxes, and Crash trolley stock.
  • Ensure robust communication with ward pharmacists, ward staff, and patients regarding medication availability and delivery.
  • Monitor internal dispensing error rates, report on issues, devise strategies for resolution, and feedback to staff.

Skills and Expertise

  • GPhC qualified Technician
  • Management of service provision and staff
  • Qualified or nearly qualified accredited checking Technician
  • Significant post-qualification hospital pharmacy experience
  • Familiarity with JAC medicines management systems and automated robotic dispensing systems
  • Experience in undertaking audits, writing procedures, and operational management (advantageous)
  • Confident, friendly, “can-do” attitude
  • Ability to forge relationships with a wide range of staff
