Defence Allegations Designated Officer (DADO) – Wiltshire

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring children’s voices are heard and safeguarding their well-being.
  • Providing advice, support, and guidance to Defence partners on complex issues overseas.
  • Coordinating and overseeing responses to allegations against MOD personnel working with children overseas, ensuring swift action and resolving inter-agency issues.
  • Ensuring a consistent, fair, and thorough process for all personnel working with children and young people.
  • Supporting safeguarding and investigative processes in locations without Local Safeguarding Partnerships.
  • Setting the agenda and chairing allegation management strategy meetings, holding agencies accountable, and challenging decisions/attitudes when necessary.
  • Working with policy partners to develop policy and practice regarding allegations management.
  • Ensuring local processes comply with Joint Service Publications (JSP 834, 893) and Working Together guidance.
  • Providing briefings on safer employment practices for professional staff, the voluntary sector, and other agencies.
  • Referring organizational learning needs to the Safeguarding Practice Review Group or other relevant bodies.
  • Developing innovative responses to changing circumstances and problem-solving with responsibility and independence.
  • Processing and managing information relating to casework, advice, timescales, and outcomes.
  • Keeping senior leaders informed of situations that may result in negative publicity for Defence.
  • Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with local Safeguarding Partnership Leads, health, education, police, and Commands overseas.

Skills and Expertise

  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex situations and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience in coordinating multi-agency responses.
  • Proficiency in JSP 834 and JSP 893 guidelines, Working Together and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work with sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
