Senior Pharmacy Support Worker – Chase Farm Hospital, London
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Pharmacy Stores and Patient Services Team in providing efficient service to all users.
- Ensuring daily running of the Pharmacy Department follows standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Providing pharmacy service to patients, wards, and departments.
- Supervising pharmacy support workers and apprentices.
- Unpacking, checking, recording, and storing pharmaceutical products according to SOPs, including dating and signing documentation.
- Receiving stock, booking goods onto the Pharmacy JAC system, and endorsing delivery notes according to SOPs.
- Reporting and following up on identified discrepancies (invoices/deliveries).
- Loading checked items into the automated dispensing machine.
- Sorting and filing prescriptions, requisitions, and invoices/delivery records daily, and retrieving documents as needed.
- Processing medications returned by patients and departments in accordance with COSHH and departmental regulations.
- Preparing, monitoring, and recording cardiac arrest box issue to wards and departments.
- Handling staff enquiries regarding stock status and escalating to the dispensary manager when necessary.
- Notifying wards and departments of stock availability and collections.
- Ensuring collected items are signed for by healthcare professionals or portering staff.
- Dispensing medication accurately following SOPs and Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA).
- Maintaining records of FP10HP prescription receipts and issues.
- Managing the packing and labelling of Pharmacy documents for monthly storage.
- Carrying out ward/department stock top-up service against an agreed stock list.
- Assembling ward distribution boxes/containers/dispensary orders and stock requests accurately and appropriately.
- Participating in in-patient medication dispensing when required, ensuring good dispensing practices.
Skills and Expertise
- Level 2 Pharmacy Service Assistant apprenticeship (or equivalent)
- Willing to undertake pharmacy apprenticeship if not qualified
