Volunteering Development Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Volunteering Development Manager to ensure RABI volunteering is accessible, inclusive, safe, and enjoyable.
  • Develop and implement clear guidance and processes for the volunteer journey (recruitment, induction, management, exit).
  • Update volunteer management policies, procedures, and documents to comply with best practices.
  • Support the introduction and ongoing management of systems for volunteering and volunteer management.
  • Support and coordinate improvements to volunteer communications (newsletters, portal, updates).
  • Assist with the annual volunteer survey to gather feedback.
  • Support planning and delivery of events/meetings to recognize achievements and foster collaboration (conferences, online meetings).
  • Coordinate RABI’s approach to national volunteering initiatives (Volunteers Week, Big Help Out, etc.).
  • Develop website content and promotional materials to raise the profile of RABI volunteering and attract new volunteers.
  • Support the development of opportunities for new volunteers (events, ambassadors, micro-volunteering).
  • Work with the wider team to support existing committees in attracting new volunteers.
  • Develop and lead the centralised onboarding of volunteers, including references, DBS checks, etc.
  • Support the development of volunteer induction and training across the volunteer network.
  • Maintain good working relationships with the volunteering team and wider teams, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support and embed the volunteer journey and good practice in volunteer management.
  • Support local committees with volunteering-related questions and guidance.
  • Contribute to future plans for the development of volunteering strategy.
  • Produce reports and evaluation on key metrics to support volunteering development and compliance.
  • Comply with RABIs Health and Safety, Data Protection policies, and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of yourself and others.
  • Take responsibility for professional development, working with your line manager to identify training.
  • Promote the Charitys work by attending external meetings and events.
  • Perform any other reasonable task as required by your manager.

Skills and Expertise

  • Affinity with RABI’s goals and objectives.
  • Experience working with volunteers and volunteering development.
  • Good understanding of volunteer motivations.
  • Understanding of good practice and legal implications in volunteering.
  • Experience creating policies and guidance.
  • Excellent communication skills (face-to-face, written, remote).
  • Flexibility and willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Positive and creative approach to work.
  • Ability to record, analyse, and evaluate data.
  • Self-motivated and confident in working independently and in a team.
  • Good written and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise workload, and plan ahead.
  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment and respond to changing needs.
  • Good IT skills and experience with CRM, digital tools, marketing, and social media.
  • (Desirable) Experience working within a root-and-branch charity with local volunteer groups.
  • (Desirable) Experience implementing change, including new systems for volunteering.
  • (Desirable) Ability to challenge and accept constructive feedback through reflective practice.
  • (Desirable) Resilience and adaptability in a developing department.
  • (Desirable) Understanding of Data Protection and volunteer management compliance.
  • (Desirable) Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
