Teaching Assistant – Warwickshire

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring safety and access to learning.
  • Assist with developing and implementing Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and encourage interaction.
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to engage in activities and provide feedback on progress.
  • Create a purposeful and orderly classroom environment.
  • Use strategies to support pupils achieving learning goals.
  • Assist with lesson planning and monitor pupils responses to learning.
  • Provide detailed feedback to teachers on pupil achievement, progress, and problems.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour and deal promptly with conflict.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Administer routine tests, invigilate exams, and mark pupils work.
  • Provide clerical/administrative support (e.g., photocopying, typing, filing).
  • Undertake structured learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting to pupil responses.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils competence.
  • Prepare, maintain, and use equipment/resources.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies relating to child protection, health, safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Participate in training and performance development.
  • Assist with supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before/after school and lunch.
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips, and activities.

Skills and Expertise

  • Experience working with/caring for children of relevant age.
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills.
  • Completion of DfES Teacher Assistant Induction Programme.
  • NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Training in relevant learning strategies (e.g., literacy).
  • First aid training (or appropriate training).
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning.
  • Use of other equipment technology (video, photocopier).
  • Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and legislation.
  • Understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and basic learning strategies.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and seek learning opportunities.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
