Teaching Assistant – Warwickshire
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring safety and access to learning.
- Assist with developing and implementing Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils and encourage interaction.
- Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
- Encourage pupils to engage in activities and provide feedback on progress.
- Create a purposeful and orderly classroom environment.
- Use strategies to support pupils achieving learning goals.
- Assist with lesson planning and monitor pupils responses to learning.
- Provide detailed feedback to teachers on pupil achievement, progress, and problems.
- Promote good pupil behaviour and deal promptly with conflict.
- Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
- Administer routine tests, invigilate exams, and mark pupils work.
- Provide clerical/administrative support (e.g., photocopying, typing, filing).
- Undertake structured learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting to pupil responses.
- Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils competence.
- Prepare, maintain, and use equipment/resources.
- Be aware of and comply with policies relating to child protection, health, safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
- Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings.
- Participate in training and performance development.
- Assist with supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before/after school and lunch.
- Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips, and activities.
Skills and Expertise
- Experience working with/caring for children of relevant age.
- Good numeracy/literacy skills.
- Completion of DfES Teacher Assistant Induction Programme.
- NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualifications/experience.
- Training in relevant learning strategies (e.g., literacy).
- First aid training (or appropriate training).
- Effective use of ICT to support learning.
- Use of other equipment technology (video, photocopier).
- Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and legislation.
- Understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and basic learning strategies.
- Basic understanding of child development and learning.
- Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and seek learning opportunities.
- Ability to relate well to children and adults.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
