Student Welfare Officer – Harris Academy Bermondsey

Key Responsibilities

  • Being the primary point of contact for first aid and unwell students during lessons.
  • Ensuring sufficient first aid coverage during busy periods and absences through rota management and communication.
  • Assisting the Health & Safety Officer with medical room compliance, including controlled drugs and emergency storage.
  • Assisting with student medication administration.
  • Maintaining logs of first aid incidents, medication, and medical conditions using Medical Tracker and other records.
  • Supporting the Health & Safety Officer with data analysis, reporting on Medical Tracker, and recommending improvements.
  • Coordinating communication with parents/carers regarding first aid events.
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical procedures.
  • Liaising with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and parents/carers to address student health needs.
  • Ensuring sufficient first aid supplies and equipment.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Ensuring up-to-date clinical and professional practice.
  • Alerting appropriate staff to student issues and recommending solutions.

Skills and Expertise

  • Good standard of education including GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Awareness of current public health services.
  • Awareness of current school developments.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software.
  • Understanding of infection control.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Knowledge of social issues facing disadvantaged students.
  • Minimum 3 years’ administration experience.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Experience organising and managing student support.
  • Experience organising and managing training for staff and managing logs.
  • Experience using spreadsheets.
  • Experience analysing accident and first aid log data for patterns and trends.
  • Experience creating action plans to reduce accidents and first aid visits.
  • Experience working with professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
