Sociology Teacher/Lead Practitioner

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum.
  • Support a designated curriculum area (as appropriate).
  • Monitor and support student progress and development.
  • Facilitate a learning experience that allows students to reach their potential.
  • Contribute to raising student attainment standards.
  • Share and support the academy’s responsibility for personal and academic growth opportunities.
  • Participate in operational and strategic planning (lesson planning, resource development, syllabus creation, departmental contributions).
  • Contribute to curriculum planning.
  • Support staff development (CPD, Performance Management Review).
  • Contribute to quality assurance (monitoring and evaluating the subject area).
  • Manage information (records, student progress tracking).
  • Communicate with students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Act as a form tutor to a designated student group.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching for a positive learning environment.

Skills and Expertise

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent and relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Proven secondary teaching experience (teaching practice acceptable). Experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and 11-18 schools preferred.
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory and practice.
  • Understanding of high expectations, equality of access for all students, and tutoring.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4.
  • Experience in writing lesson plans, developing resources, and assessing student work.
  • Teamwork and positive relationship building skills with all staff.
  • Good ICT skills, including innovative use of interactive whiteboards.
  • Ability to create a motivating and safe learning environment.
  • Effective communication skills (written and spoken) with parents, carers, and external agencies.
  • Effective time management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to motivate students and raise their aspirations.
