Assistant Headteacher – Head of Sixth Form
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Governing Board and Senior Leadership Team.
- Implement and manage school improvement aspects.
- Monitor and evaluate performance to enhance teaching and learning quality.
- Manage and develop teaching and learning in Years 7-13.
- Raise educational standards and outcomes.
- Provide vision, purpose, and high aspirations for student achievement and well-being.
- Maximise learning for all student groups (Pupil Premium, 16-19 Bursary, SEND, English as an additional language).
- Lead, manage, and inspire staff.
- Develop staff to raise standards and promote equality, diversity.
- Inspire high morale and address issues with accountability.
- Self-evaluate and develop school development planning (for a department or Year group/Key Stage).
Skills and Expertise
- Good honours degree.
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Substantial teaching experience in 11-18 education.
- Senior or middle leadership experience (e.g., Head of Department, Head of Year).
- Proven strategic leadership skills.
- Continuous professional development relevant to teaching and learning.
- DSL training (or willingness to undertake).
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Leadership by example with high professional standards.
- Integrity and consistent judgment.
- Effective communication and relationship building (students, parents, staff, governors).
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Calmness and effectiveness under pressure.
- Strong work ethic and administrative efficiency.
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills.

- Knowledge of current educational issues (examinations, teaching, learning, curriculum).
