Senior Occupational Therapist – East Suffolk and North Essex

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing high-standard occupational therapy service in acute inpatient, outpatient specialties, and/or community settings.
  • Demonstrating supervisory and leadership skills to support junior staff and students.
  • Working a shift pattern across 7 days, extended days until 6pm in some areas.
  • Participating in the annual Band 6 rotational scheme (Surgery, General Medicine, Neuro rehabilitation, Stroke, Frailty, Care of the Elderly, IRAS).
  • Specialist assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning.
  • Planning and organising a designated caseload of complex patients.
  • Working with patients and carers to identify and meet OT goals, using assessment tools to assess skills deficits and occupational needs, achieving functional fitness for timely discharge.
  • Planning and implementing single or a programme of interventions using treatment techniques to meet patient needs.
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and modifying treatment interventions to measure progress and ensure effectiveness.
  • Ensuring Therapy goals are integral to the multidisciplinary care plan for safe and timely discharge.
  • Providing advice and education regarding lifestyle changes and environmental adaptations for patients.

Skills and Expertise

  • Proven experience at Band 6 level in a range of areas
  • Clinical skills to manage diverse, complex caseloads
  • Supervisory and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of standardised and OT assessment tools
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong clinical reasoning skills
