Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the schools SEN policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEN or a disability.
  • Advising on a graduated approach to providing SEN Support.
  • Liaising with parents of children with SEN.
  • Liaising with other schools, external professionals and independent or voluntary bodies and being a key point of contact with external agencies.
  • Liaising with potential next providers of education to ensure that pupils and their parents are informed about options and a smooth transition is planned.
  • Working with the Headteacher and school governors to ensure that the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
  • Monitoring and evaluating provision and progress.
  • Working with staff supporting them to try a variety of teaching approaches with students in their class with SEN needs.
  • Delivering intervention sessions to individuals or small groups.

Skills and Expertise

  • Experience as a SENDCO is desirable.
  • Extensive experience of working successfully to support pupils with special educational needs.
  • Hold or be willing to take The National Award for SEN Co-ordination.
