Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the schools SEN policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEN or a disability.
- Advising on a graduated approach to providing SEN Support.
- Liaising with parents of children with SEN.
- Liaising with other schools, external professionals and independent or voluntary bodies and being a key point of contact with external agencies.
- Liaising with potential next providers of education to ensure that pupils and their parents are informed about options and a smooth transition is planned.
- Working with the Headteacher and school governors to ensure that the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
- Monitoring and evaluating provision and progress.
- Working with staff supporting them to try a variety of teaching approaches with students in their class with SEN needs.
- Delivering intervention sessions to individuals or small groups.
Skills and Expertise
- Experience as a SENDCo (desirable)
- Extensive experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs.
- Willingness to obtain The National Award for SEN Co-ordination.
