SEN Teaching Assistant
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with autism, focusing on academic and social development.
- Utilise PECS and Makaton to assist communication development (training provided if required).
- Support classroom activities under the direction of the SEN teacher.
- Assist with personal care, including feeding and changing (training provided).
- Maintain a nurturing, patient, and positive learning environment.
- Adapt communication and interaction styles to meet the needs of individual pupils.
Skills and Expertise
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant/SEN TA with pupils who have autism or Severe Learning Difficulties.
- Knowledge of ASD, PECS, and Makaton is desirable but not essential.
- Emotional intelligence and mindfulness of tone, language, and body language.
- Ability to multitask and stay focused.
- Energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive attitude.
- Commitment: Willingness to undertake personal care responsibilities and embrace training opportunities.
