Key Responsibilities

  • Helping the Head Chef ensure food preparation meets standards and deadlines.
  • Taking control of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
  • Using modern equipment and fresh produce to develop nutritious meals for residents.
  • Consulting with residents to tailor menus to their dietary needs.
  • Preparing food according to specific diets.
  • Contributing to menu development.
  • Maintaining kitchen team discipline and morale.

Skills and Expertise

  • Catering Diploma (City & Guilds/BTEC) and NVQ 2/3 in practical cookery.
  • Health and Safety certifications.
  • Food Hygiene Certificates (minimum level 2).
  • Knowledge of nutritionally balanced menu planning.
  • Ability to cater for specific dietary needs.
  • Experience in stock control and budget management (preferred).
  • Experience in care homes (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
