Science Teacher – Harris Academy Wimbledon

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum for students.
  • Monitor and support student progress and development.
  • Facilitate a learning experience enabling students to achieve potential.
  • Contribute to raising student attainment.
  • Support the academy’s responsibility for personal and academic growth.
  • Operational and strategic planning (lesson planning, resources, syllabuses, departmental plan).
  • Curriculum planning.
  • Staff development (CPD and Performance Management Review).
  • Quality assurance (monitoring and evaluating the subject area).
  • Management of information (records and student progress).
  • Communications with students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Pastoral system (form tutor).
  • High-quality teaching to ensure a positive learning experience.

Skills and Expertise

  • QTS (or equivalent) and relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Successful secondary teaching experience (including practice).
  • Experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and 11-18 schools (preferred).
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory.
  • High expectations and equality of access for all students.
  • Tutoring experience.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4.
  • Lesson planning, resource development, and student assessment skills.
  • Teamwork and positive relationship building with all staff.
  • Strong ICT skills, including interactive whiteboards (preferred).
  • Motivating and creating a safe learning environment.
  • Positive communication with parents, carers, and external agencies.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Effective time management and leadership.
  • Motivating students and raising aspirations.
