Science Teacher – Gloucester Academy
Key Responsibilities

- To implement and deliver a broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students.
- To monitor and support student progress and development.
- To facilitate a learning experience allowing students to reach their potential.
- To contribute to raising student attainment.
- To share and support the school’s responsibility for personal and academic growth.
- To work with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to promote inclusion and equality.
- To share responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the well-being and discipline of all students.
- To progress the education and welfare of designated student groups.
- To impact on the educational progress beyond one’s assigned students.
- To lead, develop, and enhance the teaching practice of others.
- To participate in Performance Management/appraisal arrangements.
- To contribute to curriculum planning and delivery.
- To monitor teaching and learning as part of the academy’s self-evaluation (including lesson observation).
- To make available full, up-to-date schemes of work.
- To advise on classroom management.
- To advise on student allocation to teaching groups.
- To advise on staffing allocation for timetabling.
- To control expenditure allowances and fulfill the academy’s budgeting expectations.
- To ensure the usage, storage, and security of facilities and resources.
- To ensure the maintenance of relevant inventories.
Skills and Expertise
- Proven experience in teaching Science at KS3 and KS4.
- Expertise in using a range of teaching methodologies, including explicit instruction.
- Knowledge of the AQA Combined Science: Trilogy curriculum.
- Experience with schemes of learning and curriculum planning.
- Ability to create engaging and effective lessons.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Experience using visual aids and technology in the classroom.
- Understanding of cognitive science research and its application in teaching practices.
- Knowledge of Sparx Science and online systems.
- Familiarity with assessment methods and student progress monitoring.
- Ability to support students with exam preparation and practice.
