Science Teacher – Gloucester Academy

Key Responsibilities

  • To create an appropriate working environment promoting students’ Health, Safety, Enjoyment, Achievement, Positive Contributions, Economic Well-being, and International Perspective.
  • To implement and deliver a broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students.
  • To monitor and support student progress and development.
  • To facilitate a learning experience allowing students to reach their potential.
  • To contribute to raising student attainment.
  • To share and support the school’s responsibility for personal and academic growth.
  • To work with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to promote inclusion and equality.
  • To share responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the well-being and discipline of all students.
  • To progress the education and welfare of designated student groups.
  • To impact on the educational progress beyond one’s assigned students.
  • To lead, develop, and enhance the teaching practice of others.
  • To participate in Performance Management/appraisal arrangements.
  • To contribute to curriculum planning and delivery.
  • To monitor teaching and learning as part of the academy’s self-evaluation (including lesson observation).
  • To make available full, up-to-date schemes of work.
  • To advise on classroom management.
  • To advise on student allocation to teaching groups.
  • To advise on staffing allocation for timetabling.
  • To control expenditure allowances and fulfill the academy’s budgeting expectations.
  • To ensure the usage, storage, and security of facilities and resources.
  • To ensure the maintenance of relevant inventories.

Skills and Expertise

  • Proven experience in teaching Science at KS3 and KS4.
  • Expertise in using a range of teaching methodologies, including explicit instruction.
  • Knowledge of the AQA Combined Science: Trilogy curriculum.
  • Experience with schemes of learning and curriculum planning.
  • Ability to create engaging and effective lessons.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience using visual aids and technology in the classroom.
  • Understanding of cognitive science research and its application in teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of Sparx Science and online systems.
  • Familiarity with assessment methods and student progress monitoring.
  • Ability to support students with exam preparation and practice.
