Key Responsibilities
- Manage care for a group of patients, ensuring care priorities and workload are effectively managed.
- Provide high standards of care, ensuring quality and best practice standards.
- Assessing patient care needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care, ensuring a patient-centred flexible approach, working within best practice as well as local policy and procedure.
- Ensure safe delivery of prescribed medications and monitor effectiveness, reporting as necessary to medical team.
- Effective monitoring of the patient’s clinical condition using tools and clinical judgement. Escalate as required.
- Appropriate harm reduction measures to promote patient safety.
- Work effectively within the team and MDT, advocating for the patient as needed.
- Safe admission, transfer, discharge and handover of patient care.
- Communicate effectively with the patient and those important to them, ensuring they are well-informed and kept up to date, ensuring patient’s wishes and priorities are respected.
- Knowledge of legal frameworks with regards to consent & capacity, safeguarding adults and vulnerabilities.
- Demonstrate clinical and professional knowledge.
- Dedication to mandatory training as well as courses/CPD that will enhance knowledge in respiratory medicine.
- Clear and Concise record keeping, both digital and written records.
- Undertake the role of shift leader, ensuring safety and oversight of the clinical area in absence of the ward manager or deputy.
- Supervise other qualified and unqualified staff and contribute effectively and positively to their learning.
