Key Responsibilities

  • Graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • SENCO qualification, or commitment to undertake SENCO qualification within a set timeframe
  • Knowledge of current educational practice and issues
  • Excellent classroom practice
  • Knowledge of national strategies (Literacy, Numeracy, ICT)
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning
  • Statutory curriculum requirements and assessment, recording, and reporting of pupil attainment and progress
  • Knowledge of current professional teaching standards
  • Secure knowledge of SEN
  • Understanding of statutory legislation concerning safeguarding, including SEN
  • Understanding of The SEN Code of Practice and its practical application of strategies for meeting the needs of SEN children
  • Awareness of strategies for improving the learning and achievement of all students
  • Experience of teaching in the Primary phase
  • Experience of working with a wide range of SEN
  • Experience of planning and implementing provision for children with SEN, including monitoring, assessment, recording, and reporting of childrens progress
  • High level of written, oral and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to a range of audiences
  • High level of organisational and planning skills
  • Evidence of sharing in and contributing to the corporate life of the school/academy
  • Work effectively as part of a team, relating well to colleagues, pupils, and parents
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to equality of opportunity for all pupils
  • Ability to investigate, solve problems and make decisions
  • Able to use own initiative and motivate others
  • Ability to relate to and empathise with pupils, developing trusting and respectful relationships
  • Respect for confidentiality of information concerning individual pupils and ability to use discretion
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships in your own classroom through teamwork and mutual support
  • Devolving responsibilities and delegating tasks where appropriate
  • Commitment to involvement in extra-curricular activities

Skills and Expertise

  • Knowledge of all phases of primary education
  • Full working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice/legislation
  • Able to offer expertise in a specific subject or area
