Key Responsibilities

  • Presenting cases before the Immigration Tribunal on 60% of available working days, adhering to professional standards and ensuring appropriate conduct.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective knowledge of Immigration law and processes.
  • Reviewing and preparing cases, reviewing decisions, and reviewing further legal representation, assessing their potential for sustainability, and identifying key evidence for effective supported argument.
  • Working flexibly around court listing changes or operational requirements, including preparing and presenting cases at short notice to meet operational demands.

  • Ability to make decisions and review information quickly.
  • Ability to deal with complex legal arguments.
  • Proactive and quick thinking in a complex legal environment.
  • Articulate under pressure and able to deliver as an effective advocate.
  • Resilient in the face of frequent and often robust challenge.
  • Ability to maintain focus over long periods.
  • Ability to analyze information quickly, identify key points, and present coherent arguments under time pressure.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent ability to pick up and quickly prepare/present complex cases at short notice.

Training

  • Comprehensive foundation programme in immigration law.
  • Mentoring and consolidation training.
  • Ongoing learning to develop communication and analytical skills.
  • Training typically completed over 12 weeks.

Travel

  • Travel to Tribunal Hearing Centre (may be further than Presenting Officer Unit).
  • Occasional travel to other Tribunal Hearing Centres, possibly via video link.
