Policy Advisor – US Sub-Federal Trade

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting briefings for ministers to support meetings with key stakeholders, including US counterparts.
  • Reviewing the UKs approach to US trade policy, ensuring alignment with UK Trade and Industrial Strategies.
  • Horizon scanning for emerging US policies, trends, and opportunities.
  • Planning and delivering impactful activity to grow bilateral trade through MoUs with US states.
  • Planning ministerial visits, collaborating with colleagues at Post and the central Visits team.
  • Developing effective communications assets, including public messaging, in collaboration with Communications teams.
  • Supporting relationships with Devolved Governments and Crown Dependencies.
  • Working with local government, including Metro Mayors, to support their US trade objectives.
  • Supporting the governance of the state-level trade agenda and engagement with partner Government departments.
  • Supporting the wider work of the US team as required.

Skills and Expertise

  • Proven experience in trade and international affairs.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of US sub-federal trade dynamics.
  • Experience with developing and implementing trade strategies.
  • Understanding of trade policy and international relations.
