Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a 16 year old boy living in Tonypandy. I am profoundly autistic and non-verbal and use PECS to say if I am unwell. I can choose my own food via this method. I am very placid with a wicked sense of humour.
I love being active and am always on the go, such as swimming, trampolining and enjoying the outdoors. My favourite pool is Cardiff International pool. Sometimes I need prompting to use the toilet but may need assistance with wiping. I enjoy playing on my IPad and travelling in the car, for me it is a safe space to help self-regulate.
I can display self-injurious behaviour by biting myself, indicating that I am upset. I also make involuntary noises but at the same time I am sensitive to external noises. I would need to be distracted or taken away from the situation. I can also respond well to a firm command to help me understand the situation.
PLACE OF WORK
Local area of Tonypandy.
HOURS OF WORK
8 hours per month
Two sessions per month on a regular weekday evening and occasional weekend.
RATE OF PAY
£12.00 per hour including mileage allowance
40p mileage allowance when I am in the car with you
TASKS INVOLVED
· Making sure I am engaging in an activity
· Having time and patience to understand my need and not to rush me
· Adapting to my moods and anticipating my needs
· To go swimming with me and help me change after
· To go out for food and involve me in the choices
· Assisting me to use the toilet
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
· Someone comfortable providing basic personal care support
· You must be quite assertive with me, with clear communication skills
· Someone who is active as I am on the go all the time
· Car driver
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly and appropriate holiday pay given. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check – which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK.
