Orthopaedic Plaster Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply, adjust, and remove casts, following agreed protocols.
  • Identify and address potential casting problems, record any adverse incidents/events in the DATIX system.
  • Document all clinical treatment and interventions in the patients Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
  • Assist in theatre with splinting, casting, and brace application.
  • Provide wound care and suture removal.
  • Prepare and clean treatment areas.
  • Maintain order in cupboards and storerooms.
  • Fit simple orthotics as directed.
  • Conduct clinics in the plaster room, involving consultants, registrars, podiatrists, and orthotists.

Skills and Expertise

  • Experience as an Orthopaedic Plaster Technician or Casting Technician.
  • Hold a British Casting Certificate.
  • Ability to learn and apply new techniques.
  • Strong understanding of emergency procedures.
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
