Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the woman’s advocate, promoting and delivering high-quality midwifery care, adhering to policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Develop flexible, high-quality individual care models.
  • Assess woman’s physical, psychological, and spiritual needs, and plan, implement, and evaluate midwifery care involving the woman and her family.
  • Write accurate, legible, concise, and contemporaneous reports, records, and care plans (including electronic data storage).
  • Monitor woman’s condition, interpret observations, and identify deviations from normal.
  • Report and refer to relevant health professionals, carrying out midwifery interventions as needed.
  • Keep woman and her family informed, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure midwifery care meets diverse needs.
  • Comply with HSC Guernsey’s medicine management policy.
  • Undertake clinical skills relevant to the role and woman’s care.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team and service providers to ensure effective and efficient woman-centered care.
  • Examine and observe the neonate, interpreting observations, and identifying deviations from normal.
  • Deliver and evaluate formal parenting preparation programmes.
  • Incorporate health education into the woman’s care.
  • Identify and manage at-risk families, devising care plans in conjunction with other professionals.
  • Attend multiagency meetings, develop close working relationships, and participate in safeguarding practices.
  • Monitor families’ compliance with child protection plans and write reports.
  • Engage with women and families in avoiding and resolving complaints.
