Mental Health Link Worker – South Tyneside

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively listen with empathy, care, and concern to individuals with mental health needs.
  • Help individuals express their needs, develop goals, and identify solutions.
  • Support individuals to gain skills and confidence for attending activities improving mental health and wellbeing.
  • Build resilience for future challenges.
  • Ensure service users maintain good mental health and receive appropriate support.
  • Support service users in achieving their longer-term aspirations.
  • Provide services consistently with organisational values, promoting accountability, respect, excellence, innovation, and compassion.

Skills and Expertise

  • Significant experience working 1:1 with service users and/or people with complex needs.
  • Significant experience within health, social care, or VCSE systems.
  • Awareness of mental health issues and users’ needs.
  • Experience working with people having enduring and complex mental health issues in a community-based setting.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge/skills.
  • Ability to identify personal strengths and recognize opportunities for personal development.
  • Proactive exploration of new ways of working to improve performance and service delivery.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to promote teamwork and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to express views positively and constructively.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of the mental health sector and third-sector organisations.
  • Knowledge of the effects of stigma and discrimination.
  • Knowledge of recovery in the context of mental health.
