Lead Nurse Assessor – Lung Cancer Screening Service

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the establishment and delivery of the Lung Cancer Screening Service.
  • Facilitating and overseeing patient flow through the screening program.
  • Supporting required onward referrals based on screening review and MDT recommendations.
  • Developing infrastructure, policies, and procedures for the service.
  • Leading the service from a nursing perspective, adhering to national protocols.
  • Overseeing patient flow through the screening program.
  • Supporting patients and managing nursing staff.
  • Leading interaction between primary and secondary care.
  • Providing clinical nursing oversight of all patients in the screening service.
  • Managing hub processes for reporting findings and referrals.
  • Ensuring timely management of referrals with serious incidental findings.
  • Managing screening hub processes, including ensuring patient information availability.
  • Prioritizing and escalating patient care based on clinical team information.
  • Ensuring patient pathways comply with Trust policies and Government waiting time targets.
  • Providing practical, emotional, and psychological support to patients and families.
  • Providing practical help through effective communication regarding CT scan findings.
  • Supporting the effective delivery of the new lung screening service.
  • Leading a team of lung cancer screening nurses and providing direct line management.
  • Managing the administrative team.
  • Taking relevant history and clinical assessment to develop management plans.
  • Overseeing contact of all patients within the screening program.
