Hours per week: 30 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3-4 months

The purpose of the role is to provide mentoring and practical support for Children in our Care and Care Leavers aligned to the Children’s Services Practice Framework including systemic and compassionate approaches.
Key Responsibilities:
Meet with allocated Children and Young People (CYP) 1-2 times per week to provide bespoke mentoring support in line with the identified needs of children and young people utilising goal based planning and enabling the development of self-sufficiency for children and young people.
Carry out holistic assessments of need and support CYP in setting realistic and practical targets to achieve their long-term goals including leading the interface with social workers and Leaving Care Personal Advisors to ensure that statutory plans and support is coherent and leads to improved outcomes for children and young people.
Develop and deliver structured and targeted evidence-based interventions and positive activities with children, young people individually, in groups or as a family in a range of settings, including community and youth settings including therapeutically informed support; systemic, compassionate mind approaches, restorative and cognitive behavioural approaches.
Provide practical support for CYP and support engagement in personal, social development activities, and where appropriate, education, employment and training.
Ensure interventions are recorded on the appropriate recording system in line with the practice standards of Children and Families’ Social Care.
Develop, lead and evaluate consultation activity with relevant participation groups to ensure the programme continuously meets their needs.
Support mentees to improve their sense of identity and develop a sense of belonging through utilisation of the Children’s Services Practice framework including the delivery of practical support and social skills and activities
Maintain good communication with Children in our Care and Care Leavers who would like ongoing mentoring support, ensuring that you contract effectively and manage expectations.
Deliver evidence based interventions with children and young people to help develop strong and sustainable relationships and support networks that will remain in place following the end of their time on the programme.
Actively contribute to regular project delivery group meetings to support the mobilisation and monitoring of the mentoring programme including project reporting and evaluation.
Qualifications:
Good all round education.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
A sound knowledge of principles and procedures relating to the support and monitoring mechanisms for children and young people e.g. care planning, case conferencing and Looked After Children Reviews.
Previous mentoring experience.
Must have proven successful experience of working directly with children and young people including those facing multiple and complex barriers.
Must have the ability to develop and deliver effective training and support to the wider workforce to help embed mentoring approaches and practical support in line with the programme’s sustainability and the Children’s Services Practice Framework.
Must have a strong understanding of the needs of children and young people (and their wider support networks) including unemployment, anti-social behaviour, crime, parental capacity and the ability to apply this in your practice to achieve demonstrable impact.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
