Head of KS5 Mathematics

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading, managing, and developing the subject area.
  • Raising standards of student attainment and achievement.
  • Monitoring and supporting student progress.
  • Ensuring curriculum provision is broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated.
  • Teaching the relevant subject across age and ability ranges.
  • Facilitating a learning experience that fosters student potential.
  • Effectively managing staff, financial, and physical resources.
  • Sharing school responsibilities for personal and academic growth.
  • Operational and strategic planning (subject/faculty improvement plans, syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment, teaching strategies).
  • Ensuring high-quality, cost-effective curriculum delivery.
  • Staff development (recruiting, building, and managing a motivated team).
  • Student outcomes (target setting, monitoring, evaluation, accurate student data).
  • Pastoral system (form tutor).
  • Acting as an outstanding role model.

Skills and Expertise

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Management training (desirable).
  • Successful GCSE teaching at good or better level.
  • Experience in initiating and effectively managing change.
  • Raising achievement and demonstrating good value added for groups.
  • Knowledge of current curriculum developments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current educational thinking.
  • Understanding of child learning and raising standards.
  • Excellent communication (speech and writing) and organisational skills.
  • Building and sustaining professional standards and relationships with students.
  • Creating a safe and protective learning environment.
