Head of IT – Lancashire

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership and development of IT capacity, ensuring resources and services support future development through ongoing improvements.
  • Day-to-day leadership of IT support across a multi-site organisation.
  • Development of IT resources.
  • Delivering the IT strategy across the Trust.
  • Working with the Catholic Senior Executive Leader.
  • Regular onsite work across all schools.

Skills and Expertise

  • Proven experience defining IT strategy and managing delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Experience leading IT strategy in a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Project management experience (planning and delivering IT projects on time and to budget).
  • Strong stakeholder management (including CEO and SLT).
  • Experience managing relationships with IT suppliers (negotiating contracts, monitoring SLAs).
  • Leading IT operational service delivery and delivering high customer care standards.
  • Managing an IT department in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading an IT function in education or a highly focused customer environment.
  • Managing competing priorities and working to tight timescales.
  • Full understanding of supply and third-party management.
  • Understanding of contract management and commercial environment, driving customer value.
  • Awareness of industry trends, incorporating ideas and vision into the business.
  • Good technical knowledge of new technologies and their application.
  • Relevant methodologies (Prince2, ITIL, Agile).
  • Understanding of CRM, CMS, ERP, and general business systems.
  • Comprehensive experience and insight into IT technology and solutions.
  • Ability to manage technical staff.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent motivational and team-building skills.
  • Translating organisational direction into specific job expectations, managing performance through monitoring, coaching, and feedback.
  • Resource management (staffing, budgetary management, resource maximisation).
  • Effective communication (oral and written).
  • Experience commissioning services from third parties and managing supplier/contractor relationships.
  • Strong people management and team-building skills.
  • Mentoring/guiding staff, developing them for internal teams.
  • Decision-making and adherence to decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving and budget management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, written presentation and communication skills.
  • Customer-focused approach.

  • Ability to relate effectively with a wide range of people (staff, contractors, customers).
