Key Responsibilities
- Carry out professional teacher duties as required, following academy policies and under the Principal’s direction.
- Promote high standards through effective History teaching and learning, including preparation, evaluation, and action planning.
- Model the academy’s vision and values.
- Be part of a team developing the academy to maintain outstanding status.
- Receive and act on feedback to improve personal performance.
- Contribute to implementing policies and promoting collective responsibility.
- Consider academy contextual factors and prior attainment when planning and teaching lessons.
- Support History across the curriculum using active learning approaches.
- Recognise, promote, and celebrate diversity.
Skills and Expertise
- Good degree in a relevant History discipline (A/C)
- Teaching qualification with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (A/C)
- Strong subject knowledge in History up to GCSE (A/I)
- Recent relevant teaching experience (A/I/R)
- Experience in assessment at key stage 3 and 4 (A/I/R)
- Awareness of strategies to improve student learning and achievement (A/I)
- Understanding of curriculum developments in History (A/I)
- Proficient in a range of teaching and learning strategies (A/I)
- Understanding of assessment for learning to improve student performance (A/I)
- Confidence using standard computer packages to enhance student learning (A/I)
- Ability to use student data to raise standards (A/I)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively (A/I)
- Enthusiasm for History (A/I)
- Creative problem-solving skills and willingness to try new approaches (A/I)
- Ability to relate to students empathetically and recognise safeguarding issues (A/I/R)
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) with students and parents (A/I/R)
- Ability to set high expectations for all students (A/I/R)
- Willingness to share good practice (A/I/R)
- Optional: Strong ICT skills (including SMART board or Promethean) (A/I/R)
