Healthcare Assistant
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting registered nursing teams in patient care
- Assisting patients with personal hygiene
- Meeting patients nutritional needs, including risk assessments and care plans
- Pressure area care
- General bed making and preparation of beds for admissions
- Cleaning and preparing vacated bed spaces
- Preparing linen bags for collection
- Maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Collection of blood products
- Safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps
- Reporting clinical incidents
- Providing support to new and junior staff
- Supporting nursing team in managing abusive/aggressive behaviour
- Contributing to Health, Safety, and Security of individuals
- Care duties, including personal care, toileting, incontinence management, fluid intake/output, meal preparation, and dietary needs
- Patient movement and handling
- Preventing pressure sore development
- Obtaining specimens for testing
- Escorting patients to clinical departments
- Assisting in last offices
- General observations and reporting of untoward incidents to Registered Nursing Staff
- Initiating Basic Life Support techniques
- Ensuring due regard for patient customs, values, and spiritual beliefs
Skills and Expertise
- Experience with patient care
- Understanding of Trust policies and procedures
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Proficiency in handling clinical duties
- Knowledge of safe handling practices
- Attention to detail and commitment to patient care
- Basic Life Support skills (desirable)
