Head of Student Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic and operational direction of SRUC’s student services
  • Streamlining of student service systems and processes
  • Developing and implementing coherent student service policies and procedures
  • Providing strong leadership and professional development for the Student Services team
  • Monitoring and evaluating student service mechanisms, establishing and reporting on KPIs
  • Establishing effective relationships with key internal and external contacts
  • Coordinating SRUC induction and welcome activities
  • Contributing to SRUC strategies, including Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, and Widening Access and Participation
  • Chairing the Student Support and Engagement Committee
  • Contributing to statutory reporting, liaising with Registry, and reporting on student support service efforts
  • Overseeing and managing the budget for SRUC’s student services

Skills and Expertise

  • Strategic planning, target setting, evaluation, and reporting experience (ideally in an HEI environment)
  • Successful partnership working to support student learning and welfare
  • Proven leadership of individuals and teams
  • Experience leading change in complex organizations
  • Budget and resource management experience
  • Evaluative ability to identify areas for improvement and plan for excellence
  • Understanding of the strategic role of Student Services in supporting student learning and welfare
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Ability to write and present information clearly
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Collaborative and cross-functional working ability
  • Highly organized and able to meet deadlines
