Hand Therapist – Band 6
Key Responsibilities
- Providing high-quality, specialist hand therapy interventions to outpatients.
- Conducting advanced assessments and treatments for orthopedic hand trauma and elective surgery.
- Managing a caseload of routine and complex patients requiring specialist hand therapy.
- Ensuring rehabilitation is evidence-based and client-centred.
- Developing and implementing specialised hand therapy programmes.
- Evaluating patient progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed.
- Communicating complex information to patients and carers.
- Managing clinical risk and seeking guidance from senior therapists.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records.
- Deputizing for Band 7 therapist if required.
- Providing group and individual education, utilizing specialist skills in splints.
- Prevent impairment and improve function, independence, and quality of life.
Skills and Expertise
- Advanced clinical reasoning and analytical skills
- Proficiency in a range of therapeutic modalities (e.g., manual techniques, splinting, task analysis)
- Knowledge of different treatment modalities
- Sound knowledge of available treatment options
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to interpret assessment findings
- Understanding of evidence-based practice
- Experience with computerised patient database systems
