Grants Officer – YMCA Doncaster

Key Responsibilities

  • Work delegated idea notes into fundable project profiles with compelling support cases.
  • Create clear and compelling support cases for unrestricted grants income.
  • Agree full cost recovery arrangements with the Chief Executive.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of trusts, foundations, and similar funders, developing knowledge and relationships.
  • Make strong applications to funders, matching YMCA Doncaster’s cases with funder interests.
  • Make strong applications to public sector and similar bodies offering contracts.
  • Work towards regularly reviewed and achievable targets.
  • Prepare and give presentations, maintain contact, and host trustee/representative visits.
  • Devise efficient evaluation and monitoring systems meeting funder requirements.
  • Ensure accurate completion of returns and reports for funder satisfaction.
  • Keep comprehensive records from initial contact to funding agreements and monitoring.
  • Supervise/oversee grants volunteers and less experienced staff applying for smaller grants.
  • Comply with fundraising and other relevant legislation.
  • Recommend updates to the Fundraising Policy.
  • Report to the Chief Executive monthly.
  • Maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Skills and Expertise

  • Proven track record of securing funding (five figures plus) through written bids.
  • Experience in the full grants fundraising cycle (creating cases, submitting applications, monitoring).
  • Understanding of the UK grants/trusts climate and potential funders for YMCA Doncaster’s work.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, strong grammar, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and self-supporting, able to work independently and handle unexpected situations.
  • Ability to supervise and support volunteers in completing strong applications efficiently.
  • Project budget and projection creation and management.
  • High-level Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency.
  • Technology proficiency for information gathering and online application completion.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality and appropriate relationships.
  • Positive, professional, and credible representation of the Association.

Job Facilities/Benefits

  • 30,725 salary (based on 40 hours weekly).
  • Flexible working week between 32 and 40 hours.
  • Hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site.
