Head of Legal, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Key Responsibilities

• Providing legal advice and guidance on ESG activities.
• Leading and developing efficient ESG compliance approaches across franchises, functions, and jurisdictions.
• Supporting business strategy and shaping future direction.
• Managing a team of legal professionals on ESG-related matters.
• Managing the coordination and delivery of strategic legal advice across ESG legal risks.
• Building relationships with senior ESG stakeholders.
• Providing ESG legal subject matter expertise in managing ESG legal risk.
• Overseeing ESG-related disclosures and ensuring compliance.
• Identifying and implementing technology and data solutions for managing ESG legal risks.
• Representing the bank in external ESG policy debates.

Skills and Expertise

• Significant experience in law or related field, with experience in financial regulation, ESG, or related subjects.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of key UK, EU, and US ESG regulations (TCFD, CSRD, SFDR, NFRD, Modern Slavery Act).
• Experience as an in-house legal counsel.
• Team management, support, and coaching experience.
• Pragmatic, commercial, risk-based advice.
• Experience engaging in and influencing policy debates.
• Pro-active stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with data analysis and process enhancement.
