Emergency Department Staff Nurse – Merseyside

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to quality patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating individualised care.
  • Assist in patient admissions, transfers, and discharges according to local policy.
  • Participate in developing and monitoring care standards and quality initiatives.
  • Act as departmental triage nurse, utilizing assessment, prioritisation, decision-making, risk management, and communication skills.
  • Coordinate activities in the ED under senior nurse supervision, considering the complex needs of the department.
  • Maintain a caring, approachable, and consistently professional manner.
  • Promote patient safeguarding in line with national and local policies.
  • Utilise hospital systems for patient diversion/referral.
  • Ensure comprehensive, concise, and accurate patient care recording.
  • Maintain the Emergency Department Patient Tracking IT system.
  • Assist in achieving key performance indicators for the ED and the Trust.
  • Maintain professional registration and adhere to NMC Code of Practice and Scope of Practice.
  • Provide appropriate and consistent nursing care with clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in infection prevention and control measures.
  • Report and record untoward incidents.
  • Assist in effective communication with staff, patients, relatives, and other departments.
  • Ensure equipment security and maintenance.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of Band 5 competencies and skills.
  • Fulfil professional updating requirements and maintain personal records.
  • Participate in teaching students and in-service training for qualified nurses and healthcare assistants.
  • Act as a preceptor, mentor, or facilitator for junior staff.
  • Deputise for the senior nurse when necessary.
  • Participate in research, special projects, or audits as requested.
  • Contribute to setting, maintaining, and monitoring care standards through audits.
