Royal Engineers Museum
This post would suit someone new to working in Museums and Archives who is keen to develop their skills and knowledge of curatorial, collections care, digitisation and exhibition project work. Training opportunities and support will be provided, and the post will work closely with senior Museum staff.
Responsibilities for this role include:
• Prepare archive for conservation, undertaking an inventory and packing for transit to off-site conservator.
• Research the story of Mulberry Harbour to support accurate cataloguing, digitisations, exhibition and website content for this project.
• Undertake detailed and accurate cataloguing of the Mulberry Harbour plans, working with volunteers.
• Undertake minor repair and cleaning to Mulberry Harbour material as directed by Collections Manager.
• Assist in the supervision of volunteers working on the project.
• Identify and advise on material suitable for digitisation, working with the Digital Collections Access Officer to produce good quality digital items (including 3D scans of models).
• Assist with the design and installation of War Winning Engineering exhibition and online content.
• Support project evaluation: recording and reporting activity, monitoring progress and working with the Evaluation Consultant as required.
• Work with colleagues to promote the project: providing content for social media and marketing campaigns, newsletters and meetings.
Experience & Knowledge:
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
• Experience of working with computerised databases and or filing systems.
• Knowledge of and/or interest in collections care best practice.
• Previous experience in managing your own work and working on your own initiative.
• Experience of leadership and/or colleague supervision.
• Knowledge of or interest in the Armed Forces’ and/or engineering history and heritage.
