Consultant Haematologist
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical haematology care (outpatient, day case, inpatient) within an MDT structure.
- Provide liaison and clinical advice regarding Haematology test results, anticoagulation, and blood transfusion to hospital and primary care physicians.
- Review and authorise blood films referred by Biomedical Scientists for second opinion.
- Participate in clinical governance and clinical audit.
- Share in consultant haematology on-call rota (1 in 4, with colleagues from the University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust).
- Participate in Royal College of Pathologists or Physicians CPD scheme.
- Contribute to undergraduate education and training of postgraduate trainees in Haematology, as well as non-medical staff.
- Contribute to departmental research output and administration.
- Contribute to bone marrow lists.
- Provide Outpatient services for haematology patients (2 formal clinics per week, plus additional clinics for urgent cases and patients on chemotherapy).
- Supervise haematology patients undergoing treatment in day care settings.
- Maintain and improve the quality of the Haematology laboratory service.
- Develop existing specialist services in haematology and haemato-oncology.
- Improve blood transfusion practice.
- Attend monthly Pathology Board meetings and Pathology Quality Meetings.
- Support the intrathecal chemotherapy service.
- Undertake adequate and appropriate continuous professional development (CPD).
- Complete annual appraisal and job planning.
