Behavioural Support Worker – East London
Key Responsibilities
- Support the provision of assessments and interventions using a Positive Behavioural Support approach.
- Undertake functional assessments of challenging behaviours, under supervision.
- Work alongside clients, families, carers, and professionals to support understanding and responses to challenging behaviours, aligned with PBS principles, Positive & Proactive Care, and NICE Guidance (including NG11 & NG93).
- Deliver relevant interventions to increase the knowledge and skills of stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team and stakeholders to deliver on the Transforming Care Agenda and local delivery plan.
- Contribute to the delivery of positive behavioural support informed interventions to people with a learning disability.
- Ensure a high standard of clinical care for clients, providing a comprehensive and appropriate PBS service.
- Play a key role in the assessment of clients with challenging behaviours, including initial and detailed functional assessments.
- Provide behavioural intervention strategies based on functional assessments, suitable for service users and families/support staff.
- Develop Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Hold a clinical caseload, working under supervision with other agencies and professionals.
- Undertake risk assessments and develop risk management plans, independently or as part of a team.
- Develop the knowledge and skill base around Positive Behaviour Support in the local borough for family carers, support staff, and other professionals.
- Communicate effectively with health and care professionals and external agencies regarding client care and progress.
- Communicate with team members regarding PBS and risk management plans.
- Work autonomously in diverse contexts, including community work with clients with complex needs.
- Adapt communication to facilitate clients’ understanding.
- Liaise with all involved agencies, maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide a clinical service to clients from diverse backgrounds, considering cultural factors in assessment, formulation, and interventions.
- Plan and prioritize clinical workload, collaborating with colleagues on complex cases.
- Record, monitor, and report on clinical work and communicate information to various recipients.
- Maintain client records.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of local resources, and build relationships with relevant organisations.
- Ensure client care needs are reviewed regularly and care plans are adjusted.
- Perform other relevant duties as discussed with the Lead Clinical Psychologist.
Skills and Expertise
- Proven experience in Positive Behavioural Support (PBS)
- Experience with working with individuals with learning disabilities
- Understanding of NICE guidance including NG11 and NG93
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in undertaking risk assessments and developing risk management plans
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
