Animal Science Inspector
Key Responsibilities
- Licence application assessment: Assess applications for licences under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), making defensible, clearly documented, and consistent decisions.
- Assess compliance of licence holders: Analyze data and information to understand compliance history, trends, and potential issues. Conduct on-site visits, audits, cage-side checks, and reviews of establishment documentation.
- Investigate non-compliance: Investigate cases of non-compliance and apply appropriate remedies.
- Provide expert advice: Provide expert advice on ASPA and ASRU standards to various audiences, including developing and publishing advice notes.
- Manage caseload: Manage own caseload effectively to meet statutory deadlines and service level agreements.
- Team contribution: Contribute to team goals through a flexible, supportive approach and adapt to new tasks.
- Continuous improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement of the regulator by improving operating procedures, delivering training, and providing constructive feedback.
- Policy engagement: Engage with the Animals in Science Regulation Policy Unit to update them with operational findings and provide feedback on policy proposals.
