Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support in assessment, planning, and delivery of patient care within agreed responsibilities.
  • Monitor practice standards, identify and address factors impacting patient care quality.
  • Employ risk assessment strategies to minimize identified risks.
  • Utilize data to identify problems, guide decision-making, and develop strategic service delivery.
  • Promote service user involvement in care planning, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Keep abreast of political and professional developments in nursing practice.
  • Ensure adherence to NMC professional code of conduct and standards.
  • Develop effective communication channels with relevant departments and agencies.
  • Maintain practice expertise through supernumerary patient care (1 day/week).
  • Work within competence and guidelines to facilitate tailored care packages.
  • Collaborate with multi-professional teams to develop innovative practices.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Department Doctors, receive clinical supervision, and refer beyond competency levels.
  • Provide advanced health assessments based on specialist knowledge.
  • Have advanced emergency care knowledge and skills, contributing to patient assessment, treatment, planning, and evaluation.
  • Prescribe care elements and treatments for other healthcare team members, including pharmacological interventions.
  • Order, interpret diagnostic tests, and initiate appropriate patient management (G225).
  • Undertake specialist clinical skills within ACP practice (e.g., suturing, arterial blood sampling, digital nerve blocks, joint relocation, advanced airway skills).
  • Exercise clinical decision-making autonomy, supported by medical professionals.
  • Provide leadership in promoting client/patient health and well-being.
  • Promote and support supervision implementation, providing resources and training.
  • Ensure a quality learning and assessment environment.
  • Identify staff training and educational needs.
  • Serve as a clinical knowledge and expertise resource for nurses, doctors, and MDT team members.
  • Develop learning programmes to meet staff educational needs.
  • Maintain own continuing professional development.
  • Complete in-house annual mandatory training (Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Safety, AED).
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of team members.
  • Ensure team awareness of organizational objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor policy and procedure implementation.
  • Assist in providing annual appraisals following the professional development review process.
  • Identify and manage staff performance issues to address developmental needs.
  • Monitor and review staffing levels and skill mix.
  • Promote a learning culture supporting staff through change and development.
  • Act as a professional role model, promoting high standards and values.
  • Monitor non-medical prescribing expenditure and assist in Emergency Department budget allocation.
  • Develop evidence-based policies and procedures for the ANP role.
  • Communicate clearly with all staff members, demonstrating cultural and language sensitivity.
  • Manage conflict between individuals, including staff, patients, and significant others.
  • Ensure written communication complies with organizational and professional standards.
  • Communicate with the media and other external agencies.
  • Attend relevant meetings (Governance, Educational Governance, ED Management, peer reviews, hyperbaric).
  • Support departmental Senior Nursing team with departmental meetings.
  • Identify potential audit areas in conjunction with ward manager and band 7 staff.
  • Assist and investigate critical incidents, document risks impacting patient care, and liaise with the clinical risk manager.
  • Utilize data from patient feedback, critical incidents, and complaints to improve practices.
  • Promote evidence-based practice for self and other staff involved in patient care.
  • Develop practice, ensuring new initiatives are incorporated.
  • Utilize organizational electronic information systems.
  • Modify, structure, maintain, and present data in electronic and paper formats.
