Acute Oncology Nurse Practitioner
Key Responsibilities
- Providing expert nursing leadership to support colleagues in facilitating a seamless oncology service across the Acute Trust.
- Caring for acutely unwell patients with suspected or known cancer diagnoses, treatment complications, or disease complications.
- Specializing in new cancer diagnosis in an emergency setting.
- Organizing and maintaining a high-quality, cost-effective Clinical Nurse Specialist service for acutely unwell patients.
- Planning and organizing own caseload, and managing associated administration.
- Assessing clinical and holistic patient needs and liaising with oncology and multidisciplinary teams.
- Promoting coordinated care, ensuring EHNAs are completed to support personalized care.
- Working as part of the Acute Oncology Team to support the 7-day service as required.
- Contributing to the delivery and evaluation of evidence-based patient care throughout the appropriate treatment pathway.
- Acting as a nurse advisor and support to patients and families with cancer of unknown primary, providing information and assistance to carers.
- Working alongside acute medical teams on both hospital sites.
Skills and Expertise
- Experienced nurse, already working at senior Band 6 or 7 role.
- Extensive knowledge/experience in acute medicine, emergency department, and oncology nursing.
- Previous oncology experience.
- Broad knowledge of patients admitted with complications of disease and complications of SACTs.
- Strong organisational and clinical skills.
- Acute care and advanced communication skills.
