Interim Children’s Occupational Therapist – Bournemouth
Key Responsibilities
- Complete robust holistic assessments focusing on a child’s function and occupational needs within their home environment.
- Assess, recommend, and prescribe specialist equipment to improve function and prevent deterioration of physical skills (e.g., postural seating, bathing, toileting equipment).
- Support children/young people and their families/carers through advice, specialist equipment provision, risk assessments, and assistance with home adaptations (minor and major).
- Complete specialist equipment reviews (e.g., seating, specialist beds).
- Conduct hoist sling checks in line with LOLER regulations.
- Assess child and family needs to progress OT recommendations following Disabled Facilities Grant legislation, working closely with grants team for adaptations.
- Complete moving and handling risk assessments and create bespoke moving and handling care plans for children with complex physical disabilities.
- Promote independence and reduce risks associated with caring for children with disabilities, minimizing the impact of disability on the child, family, and supporting children to thrive at home.
- Undertake additional duties as determined by the Children’s Occupational Therapy Team Manager.
- Use computerised systems (e.g., Word, Excel, Mosaic) as appropriate.
Skills and Expertise
- Qualified Occupational Therapist
- Current HCPC registration
- Full UK driving licence with insured car for business use
- Knowledge and experience of community equipment, minor and major adaptations (including Disabled Facilities Grant)
- Knowledge and experience of moving and handling legislation and practice
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Care Act 2014, Equality legislation, Mental health Act, safeguarding, GDPR, health and safety, risk assessment)
- Experience of completing assessments and reviews
- Experience of preparing needs-led assessments/reassessments and support plans
- Experience of using IT systems
- Experience of dealing with safeguarding issues
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams in a Social Care or Health setting
- Good communication, assessment, and written skills
- Ability to prioritise caseload and work in a fast-paced environment
