Interim Senior Social Worker – Children’s Social Care
Key Responsibilities
- Work across children’s social care, other council departments, and multi-agency organizations to develop effective relationships with partners for delivering services to children, young people, and their families, safeguarding children and promoting care within families.
- Communicate effectively in various forums, even in complex or challenging circumstances, to ensure adherence to Directorate policy, best practice guidelines, and plans regarding resource deployment and outcomes for children and young people.
- Collaborate with management colleagues to develop and maintain an effective service for children, young people, and their families, contributing to policy, procedures, and guidance.
- Provide direct and indirect supervision to staff, considering statutory/regulatory and operational standards, policy, and procedures within the Directorate and wider council.
- Support staff in achieving their potential, ensuring effective team performance by utilizing published guidance on managing performance, professional development, staff appraisal, and attendance.
- Maintain up-to-date records safely and confidently according to Directorate/Council policies and procedures, and contribute to the audit, evaluation, and analysis of social care records to inform service performance.
- Promote effective assessment, direct work, and risk management to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people within a safeguarding context.
- Meet the requirements of the Professional Capabilities Framework at the Advanced level and HCPC registration standards, conduct, and professional development.
Skills and Expertise
- Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification
- Successful completion of the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment or the Childrens Workforce Development Councils Newly Qualified Social Worker programme (if employed as a Social Worker since 2010)
- Registration with the HCPC
- Knowledge and application of values and principles for children, young people, families/carers involvement, including independent advocacy and complaints processes
- Knowledge and application of legal and policy frameworks and guidance that inform social work practice in Children’s Social Care
- Knowledge and application of social work interventions in various areas of practice, with critical awareness of current issues and evidence-based practice research
- Minimum 3 years of post-qualifying experience in Children’s Social Care, including managing challenging and complex casework
- Demonstrated skilled use of assessment and intervention frameworks
- Ability to contribute to practice development and promote a learning culture
- Proficiency in using electronic business support processes for case recording and diary management
