Interim Team Manager – Children’s Social Care
Key Responsibilities
- Work across children’s social care and other council departments to develop effective relationships with partners, delivering services to children, young people, and families to safeguard children and promote their care within families.
- Communicate effectively in various forums, handling complex or challenging circumstances, and adhering to directorate policy and best practice.
- Collaborate with management colleagues to develop and maintain an effective service, contributing to policy, procedures, and guidance for practice.
- Provide direct and indirect supervision to staff, upholding statutory/regulatory standards, policy, and procedures.
- Support staff to enhance their skills and performance, ensuring an effective team delivers services that benefit children, young people, and their carers.
- Maintain up-to-date records in accordance with Directorate/Council policies and procedures, contributing to audit, evaluation, and analysis of social care records.
- Promote effective assessment, direct work, and risk management to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people in a safeguarding context.
- Meet the requirements of the Professional Capabilities Framework at the Advanced level and Health Care Professions Council registration standards.
Skills and Expertise
- Degree in Social Work or equivalent
- Trained in Supervision in social work, and/or trained in coaching/mentoring
- Registration with the HCPC
- Advanced knowledge, understanding, and application of service user involvement, independent advocacy, and complaints processes
- Advanced knowledge, understanding, and application of legal and policy frameworks in Children’s Social Care
- Advanced knowledge, understanding, and application of the Professional Capabilities Framework
- Significant experience (minimum 5 years post-qualification) of working with children and families in a statutory and multi-agency context
- Previous supervisory experience of social work staff and/or students
- Experience in exploitation cases
- Managing complex children’s social work casework successfully with a strong record of effective practice
- Advanced communication skills (verbal and written) to diverse audiences
- Workload management skills
- Ability to analyse complex information and plan interventions
- Proven ability to transfer knowledge and skills to supervisees
