Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out professional teaching duties as required, aligning with academy policies and under principal direction.
  • Promote high standards in Maths through effective teaching and learning, encompassing preparation, evaluation, and action planning.
  • Model the academy’s vision and values.
  • Contribute to the academy’s ongoing development towards ‘outstanding’ status.
  • Act upon feedback to improve performance and build upon strengths within academy systems.
  • Contribute to implementing and promoting policies and practices, fostering collective responsibility.
  • Consider and adapt lesson planning and delivery based on academy context and prior student attainment.
  • Integrate Maths into cross-curricular activities utilizing active learning approaches.
  • Recognize, promote, and celebrate diversity.

Skills and Expertise

  • Good degree in a relevant Maths discipline (A/C)
  • QTS and teaching qualification (A/C)
  • Strong Maths subject knowledge up to GCSE level (A/I)
  • Recent and relevant teaching experience (A/I/R)
  • Experience in assessment at key stages 3 and 4 (A/I/R)
  • Knowledge of strategies to improve student learning and achievement (A/I)
  • Understanding of curriculum developments in Maths (A/I)
  • Proficient in diverse teaching and learning strategies (A/I)
  • Understanding of assessment for learning to enhance student performance (A/I)
  • Confidence in using standard computer packages to enhance student learning (A/I)
  • Ability to use student data to raise standards (A/I)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively (A/I)
  • Enthusiasm for Maths (A/I)
  • Creative problem-solving skills and willingness to adopt new approaches (A/I)
  • Positive student relations and recognition of safeguarding issues (A/I/R)
  • Excellent communication skills with students and parents (A/I/R)
  • Setting and communicating high expectations to all students (A/I/R)
  • Willingness to share best practices within and beyond the department (A/I/R)
  • Optional: Strong ICT skills including SMART board or Promethean (A/I/R)
