Legal Counsel Edinburgh
Join us as a Legal Counsel, delivering expert and cost-effective legal advice.
This role will support our Commercial & Institutional Banking business area, requiring a strong understanding of related legal issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate legal advice delivery, supporting Asset & Invoice Finance, Business Banking, Commercial Mid-Market, Restructuring and Capital Management business areas.
- Ensure timely, effective, and efficient delivery of issues, projects, and initiatives, either directly or through a team.
- Ensure legal advice is understandable to non-lawyers, delivered within timescales, and manage and minimise legal risks.
- Deliver continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, identifying efficiencies, improvements, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Communicate internal and external legal advice, aiding transaction and project delivery to stakeholders in a commercial, user-friendly, and efficient manner.
- Manage legal costs through e-billing, auctions, and other tools, fostering a disciplined cost management culture.
Skills and Expertise
- Experience providing legal and commercial advice in relation to transactions and projects, in-house or at a leading UK law firm.
- In-depth knowledge of general banking law and practice, and the financial services industry.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across the bank.
- Restructuring experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of commercial and institutional banking business activities, the operating environment, and related legal issues.
- Experience working with leading law firms and other professional advisors and consultants.
- Ability to stay current with and share relevant legal and market developments.
- Proactive attitude to developing skills in the supported business areas.
