Communications Officer – YMCA Doncaster
Key Responsibilities
- Create compelling long-form content (website articles, print materials, case studies, media releases)
- Lead supporter-focused events (sponsored sleep out, Christmas event, impact report launch)
- Oversee adherence to key messaging, branding, and voice in all external communications
- Maintain and update the WordPress website, coordinating technical and design updates
- Distribute media releases, coordinate enquiries, interviews
- Utilize email sequences, bulletins, and round-ups to engage supporters
- Work to a planned calendar of events, publicity, and launches
- Create responsive publicity materials
- Attend networking events
- Conduct onboarding sessions for staff and volunteers on communications
- Supervise/oversee volunteers and staff in communications tasks
- Coordinate external providers for design, print, advertising, and website
- Comply with fundraising and relevant legislation
- Recommend policy updates based on legislative changes
- Report to the Chief Executive monthly
- Maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries
- Perform additional duties as needed
Skills and Expertise
- Success in a communications-focused role
- Understanding of the charity sector
- Experience with measuring continuous improvement and ROI
- Strong written communication skills, grammar, and attention to detail
- Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate YMCA Doncasters work
- Ability to coordinate staff, volunteers, and external providers
- Proficiency in WordPress, including basic functionality
- Graphic design experience (Canva)
- Self-motivated and self-supporting
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel)
- Experience with maintaining confidentiality and appropriate relationships
Job Facilities/Benefits
- 30,725 salary (40 hours weekly)
- Flexible working week (32-40 hours)
- Hybrid working arrangements (minimum 3 days per week on-site)
