Director of Music
Key Responsibilities
- Imbue the school and pupils with a love for music, making it central to school life.
- Manage a full-time music team and part-time peripatetic music teachers.
- Impart passion for music while ensuring pupils master the subject.
- Oversee planning and delivery of music schemes for Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, and monitor effectiveness.
- Monitor pupil progress according to department and school assessment policy.
- Enhance teaching quality through collaborative planning, resource sharing, mentoring, observing teachers, and professional development.
- Act as a form tutor and collaborate with the year group team.
Skills and Expertise
- Strong subject knowledge and passion for music, with ability to communicate passion to others.
- Ability to teach music at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 to all ability levels, including SEND pupils.
- Proven track record of excellent music teaching and, where relevant, outstanding outcomes for pupils at GCSE and A-level.
- Understanding of the West London Free School’s ethos and commitment to knowledge-based curriculum.
- High expectations of pupil conduct and behaviour.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills with pupils and staff.
- Willingness to contribute to the school’s co-curricular programme.
